## What Paperstack does

Paperstack is a web application for common PDF tasks. Its document-processing logic runs locally in the user's browser. The application is designed for personal and sensitive documents that users may prefer not to upload to a remote document-processing service.

## PDF merger

The merger accepts PDF, JPG, and PNG files. Users select files from their machine, arrange them in the desired order, choose an output filename, and download one combined PDF.

When a selected PDF is password protected, Paperstack asks the user for the password. A correct password allows Paperstack to render and use a visual copy of that PDF in the local browser session. Paperstack does not recover or bypass an unknown password.

## PDF compressor

The compressor accepts one PDF and provides light, balanced, and strong compression presets. It displays the original and resulting file sizes before download. Compression can reduce image-heavy PDFs substantially, but results depend on document contents and the chosen preset.

## PDF page editor

The editor displays page previews and allows users to:

- Select one or more pages.
- Reorder pages by dragging them.
- Rotate pages left or right.
- Remove unwanted pages.
- Undo recent edits.
- Export a new edited PDF while leaving the original file unchanged.

## Privacy model

PDF contents, image contents, filenames, and supplied PDF passwords are handled in browser memory for the active tool session. They are not uploaded by Paperstack's PDF processing features.

The site may use Supabase to store anonymous aggregate counters for completed merge, compression, and editing actions. These counters do not include document content, filenames, passwords, user IDs, or document metadata.

Temporary working data is discarded when a tool is reset, the page reloads, or the browser tab closes. Files explicitly downloaded by the user remain on the user's device.

## Supported environment

Paperstack requires JavaScript and a modern desktop or mobile browser. Processing speed and maximum practical document size depend on available browser memory, CPU performance, file complexity, and image resolution.
